Puppies, kittens, bunnies, oh my!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Ms. Tabitha @ 9:13 am

As far as pet ownership goes, I come from a family who buys pure bred. Yes, how snooty right? There’s a movement to adopt pets in Singapore, don’t get me wrong. But most people end up either buying from a pet store, or from a breeder.

My first all-mine pet was from a breeder in Tennessee. For our second dog (Our little guy needs a pal to play with because his owners don’t always have or make time!) we’re trying our best to adopt. But because of my allergies to pet dander/fur, I can’t just take in any dog. As much as I’d like to because I love love love dogs.

There’s a potential, but I won’t discuss that pup too much for fear of jinxing myself. But, after The Husband and I get back from our honeymoon in 3 weeks, we’ll be delving in to the adoption process more actively.

That’s not stopping me from looking though – it’s somewhat like shopping only instead of a pretty dress for Spring, this is a living, breathing item. My first stop was Happy Tales Humane in Franklin. They do adoptions every Saturday and I think they run a really good program over there.

I’m a sucker for cuteness and aesthetics and when you put them together, I’m sold. I mean, LOOK:

catdog.jpg

HOW CUTE IS THAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? They really know how to tug at an animal lover’s heartstrings. Nothing like good marketing to reel me in!!!

Their site takes you to Petfinder.com, another great place to find a dog in need of loving parents and a good home. So while I’m not straight up endorsing just one particular adoption agency, I just thought I’d share that picture. Here’s a list of places that I know of in town if you’re looking for the unconditional love and affection your abode might be missing:

Happy Tales Humane
Nashville Humane Association
SPCA of Tennessee
Adopt a Small Dog
Petfinder.com

If you have any more sites you’d like to share, feel free to leave the links in comments!

The Husband: I don’t get it, who, exactly, is this Chelsea Lately woman?

Me: I don’t know…

The Husband: I mean it seems to me she’s just bitchy and catty and YOU could do that!

Guilty Pleasure

Filed under: The Hills — Ms. Tabitha @ 10:00 am

I watch The Hills. Religiously. No other “reality” show intrigues me as much as the one revolving around the somewhat frivolous lives of LC, Whitney, Audrina and (blech) Heidi and Spencer. I could do without the last two but I’m not one of the producers so whatevs.

Last night’s season premier made my head explode. Numerous times. Like when Whitney said “Give-en-chee” when pronouncing Givenchy (even I know how to pronounce that – thanks Daddy – and I don’t work in fashion). Or when LC sewed the hem of her Ferretti ballgown into a bubble dress to go clubbing in (The Husband totally called the stain) and burned it on her curling iron. Or everytime Heidi’s face appeared. Holy cow did she widen her lips?!

You want to know how I really feel about her?

Thoseof you who are thinking, “Oh GOD do you REALLY watch that crap?” Yes. Yes I do. And come on now, does it surprise you? Really? Do you not know me but at all? Judge me all you want, but I know that you also have some craptastic reality show that you cannot live without.

This is your chance to get it off your chest because you know you want to let it out. The joy you get from sitting with girlfriends to see who’ll be kicked off The Bachelor/That’s Amore/Rock of Love or what shenanigans will those crazy people come up with next on America’s Next Top Model/Keeping Up With The Kardashians/Celebrity Fit Club.

C’mon – you know you want to – what’s YOUR tv Guilty Pleasure?

Home Cookin’

Filed under: Live to Eat — Ms. Tabitha @ 1:42 pm

Food is a huge part of the Life*a la mode style. If money (and metabolic rate) were no object, I’d eat out all the time at the best restaurants this town has to offer. Alas, turning 30 and my pants getting tighter, it’s time to assess my diet and dietary habits.

The Husband proposed we plan each week’s dinners to encourage us to stay home more, thus eating a little more fresh and healthy and, in the long run, save us money. I’m all about healthy, and I’m all about saving money from eating out  and having it to use on other necessities (Momma needs that pair of Kors wedges she saw at Macy’s dangit).

There are websites online that will help you plan your weekly meal. However rather than a site making me pay to tell me what I should be eating each week I’d rather be able to look for these recipes based on an ingredient – greens, or fish, or beef etc. Actually, I’d rather be able to find a blog because it’s free. These other sites all charge subscription fees and I can’t see myself enjoying everything they tell me to eat.

What do you, dear reader, do for your own home-cooking planning?

A coworker, while we were discussing nothing in particular, said to me, “You march to the beat of your own drum don’t you?”

I guess I do!

Have a great weekend everyone!

The Bride Room (where I, personally, bought my wedding gown from) is looking for part and full time help. The boutique (if you haven’t already been there) is a gorgeous little place in Bandywood in Green Hills across from Habit and my favorite stationery store, The Dotted Line.

If you have retail experience and are seeking to work at a great place with great coworkers, please contact Bride Room owner Charlotte Poling at 615.642.4227 or you can email her at Charlotte.poling@gmail.com.

Can’t imagine that this job’s going to stay open for long so forward this to your friends or give her a call if you’re interested!

For, Like, Ever

Filed under: Home — Ms. Tabitha @ 9:22 pm

A lot of my energy has been devoted to the home lately. I am determined to have art on most of the walls by the end of the year, starting with this:

1.jpg

Without consulting the husband, I ordered it hoping his romantic nature would overcome his guy nature and by golly, it did! He likes it too, and is as excited as I am (and about as procrastinate-y as I am too) about getting it framed and placed somewhere in our bedroom.

My first thought was going to Michael’s to use their framing service. Has anyone ever used them before? If so what was your experience? If anyone knows of a good, affordable framer in town, I have other pieces to frame too so economy is up there in importance. I will, however, cough up a little more if it means quality. Suggestions are very welcome!

And much appreciated!

If you want one, get yourself the poster at village.

Jovovich-Hawk at your local Target

Filed under: Uncategorized — Ms. Tabitha @ 1:37 pm

Honestly? I’m rather disappointed in what I’m finding online. But I’m aware that the interweb doesn’t always do clothes justice so I will actually go to a Target (when I get over whatever it is that’s ailing me right now) to check the clothes out.

You can peruse for yourself here at Target dot com.

It’s certainly not very reflective of the actual Jovovich-Hawk collection:

And I’m crossing my fingers it’s at least cuter in person… I’m all for designers making their wares affordable for the po’ folk like myself but at what cost? Maybe the lesson here is, you get what you pay for.

UPDATE: Went to Target (try and stop me) and I stand corrected – the stuff is MUCH cuter in person. The bathing suits especially!

Come Sale Away

Filed under: Uncategorized — Ms. Tabitha @ 11:05 am

One of the Saturdays this month, some friends and I will be holding a yard sale. Tentatively it’s scheduled for the 15th but it might be the 29th. Now, while I can’t guarantee the date just yet, I can guarantee that the goods we’re hocking are going to be worth browsing through.

Personally, I’ll be selling shoes (they’re in decent if not great/almost new condition) and clothes, and everyday “china” in pretty full sets. My friends will have a ton of great stuff as well.

I’ll keep you all posted! Oh and I wear size 5.5 – 6 shoes. So if you know anyone who is looking for quality shoes at rock bottom prices, come buy!
