Spring has Sprung

Heck it’s almost summer! When it’s warm, I reluctantly pack up my pashmina-y scarves and treat myself to colorful, brighter wear. This year yellow, green and purple are on my list along with my other favorite, blue.

Haven’t had much luck lately finding anything that’s made me go “I want I want!” That is, until Ms. Southern Social herself sent this to me. Talk about brain-twin! I’ve always liked this girl’s style, and I cannot wait for her to bring her flair to these parts.

So you can thank her for this.

Life with “combination” skin

Filed under: Everyday — Ms. Tabitha @ 8:46 pm

Let’s face it, saying someone’s skin is “combination” instead of “oily” is like telling a kid with a lazy eye that they’re “asymetrical.”

Eyeliner has never stayed put, neither has mascara. Give me a couple of hours, especially during the summer months, and I’ll look like I’ve been crying. It’s very attractive but unless my makeup m.o. is to be all gothy,  I don’t want my lower lids lined.

My friend Katie turned me on to Blinc’s Kiss Me mascara.

She’s been using it for years, and swears by it. It doesn’t smudge, it doesn’t rub off until you wash your face and then it just slides off each lash. “It’s like you’ve pulled off your lashes but you really haven’t.” Scary thought, seeing how my lashes are few and far between so I have to keep every single one intact as best I can.

Vanity has a way of making me splurge. But I’m with Katie now – I’ve started using the mascara and I don’t see myself every going back. I had it on all day and did it smudge? No! Passed the test with flying, no-smudge, no-budge color. Washing the stuff off is a little weird at first but really cool. I mean it really does look like your eyelashes have fallen off.

I also put new eyeliner to the test today. Gold star for that one too! The girl who does my makeup on fancy occassions used M.A.C.’s Fluidline gel liner. It comes in a jar, and it will stay on your lids even after washing. Sure it’ll smudge a little if soap and water are involved but my slick lids didn’t do anything to make it smudge!

Blinc’s Kiss Me Mascara is available at your local Sephora. As for M.A.C., if you venture into the Green Hills area and are at the mall and need help with makeup? Ask for either Jami or Bridget. Tell them Tabitha sent you!

Lessons in Louis Vuitton

Filed under: Green Hills,Just plain haute — Ms. Tabitha @ 12:37 pm

“Every bag has a story behind it.” Rightly so, seeing how every masterpiece has a story it’s only fitting that each item made by Louis Vuitton should be inspired somehow.

The lesson I learned this weekend was about the Speedy. The most popular Speedy is the one that comes in the monogrammed canvas:

The Speedy I was considering putting my wish list, is the one that comes in the Damier canvas:

Turns out, Louis Vuitton himself designed the Damier Speedy and it was his son who designed the monogrammed speedy. Guess which one I picked? Always a sucker for “original” or “classic” I went with the Damier. The biggest reason I would much rather carry that one is because every other Harpeth Hall or Vanderbilt Girl in town has the monogrammed bag so being the snob I am, I opted for one that’s more classic, more grown-up looking and less common.

The original Speedy also came in the 30 which is about 12″ long and is a substantial bag. Audrey Hepburn loved it but wanted it handbag size so they designed and made the 25 just for her. After people saw pictures of her carrying the more petite sized bag, they demanded it be available to them as well and thanks to them, I now have one!

Well, actually, real thanks goes to my wonderful husband who has impecable taste and who listens really well. Thank you for knowing me and predicting my tastes!!! I LOVE MY NEW BAG!

P.S: When you pop into Louis Vuitton at the Green Hills Mall, be sure to ask for Talvin!
