Trying Times

Filed under: Uncategorized — Ms. Tabitha @ 9:54 pm

To the few, faithful readers of Life* á la mode, I do apologize that this blog had taken off with some gusto only to dwindle to sporadic posts every now and then.

Life has a tendency to get in the way, and I’ve switched jobs a couple of times since starting this and am three months into one that is super important to me. Shopping has taken an even bigger step back, and right now making work and home life #1 are priority so I hope you understand and you stay with us here at this blog.

This is not to say that I won’t be blogging at all, but that this blog may take a shift into things that aren’t always shopping/fashion related but more life driven. I will try my utmost to not make it all navel-gazey, and will continue in the style that I’ve at kept up.

All this to say, I’m still here, Life* á la mode is not going anywhere as long as you aren’t either.

Thanks y’all!

Sending chills down my spine

Filed under: Uncategorized — Ms. Tabitha @ 2:19 pm

I’m just that excited. In just a short moment, I am leaving work behind (for the next, oh, 19 hours anyway) and heading for some retail therapy. The husband hates it when I use that term, I don’t think I have a “problem” just yet.

It’s chillier now, the temps are dropping and I’ve been able to don my boots the past couple of days. Work doesn’t afford me the joy of jeans, even on Friday, so I need to get some tuckable-yet-work-friendly pants. One of my stops today will be to J.Crew. Their cigarette cords are on sale right now and I could use a pair or two of them. FYI, their site is down right now for maintenance. But the cord sale is online and in stores.

One of my other stops is to the tailor’s to get some pants hemmed. I got some adorable bell bottom cords that are a little too long. The Gap’s been quite the addiction lately (I’m such a mall whore these days) and they’ve got a great selection of autumny clothes. I got the cords in orange. Not typically a color I like or buy but it just screams fall and pumpkins and squash!! In typical me style, I also bought another pair in grey.

They’re soooooo comfortable. And once they’re the right length, they’ll be perfect.

I’m well aware that the economy’s in the s***ter and that I should be saving especially with the holidays coming up. Barring any crazy sales, I think I’m sticking to purchasing only what I truly need this afternoon. That transaction alone should quell whatever it is my body’s yearning now that the season’s changing.

That, and maybe a big bowl of soup.

Have a lovely weekend y’all!

30 Skills Us Gals Should Know

Filed under: Uncategorized — Ms. Tabitha @ 10:54 am

Before turning 30 no less.

1. Hard boil an egg
2. Diplomatically tell Mom to butt-out
3. Ace a job interview
4. Ask a man out
5. Send a thoughtful thank you note
6. Listen to a friend in need
7. Ask for help
8. Effectively end an unhealthy relationship (romantic or platonic in nature)
9. Beautifully wrap a gift
10. Say “no” gracefully
11. Whip up a great dinner with the five items in her fridge
12. Forget pleasing him, by 30 a woman should be able to tell her man exactly how to please her
13. Sew a button
14. Mix a kick-ass cocktail
15. Take off her bra without removing her shirt
16. Apply lip gloss in the dark
17. Balance her checkbook
18. Create a budget
19. Find the best deal
20. Negotiate a salary and/or pay raise
21. Read a map
22. Hail a cab
23. Say something in French just for the hell of it
24. Apologize when she’s wrong
25. Dress for her body type
26. Change a flat (or know whom to call to come change it)
27. Spot a fake (handbag, diamond, potential friend…)
28. Feign interest
29. Know what to tip on a $25 dinner bill
30. Hold a baby
This is all according to The Frisky. And I know how to do everything on this list except sewing a button. I know how, I’m just really bad at it. Oh, and I’m also bad at saying no and telling mom to butt out. Negotiating a salary? Ergh… I always have to take a deep breath first.

How did you fare?

If this list has piqued your interest, I also enjoyed the 100 Things a Man Should Know list. I think a lot of that should apply to women too.

Tis the season for Abbyhugs!

Filed under: Just plain haute — Ms. Tabitha @ 12:50 pm

Sweaters, mittens, scarves OH MY!! It’s getting a leeeeettle chillier outside so there’s still time to prep your autumn/winter wardrobe. Since Nashville doesn’t get bone-chilling cold like some states up north, there’s no need for cumbersome, lumpy, unflattering coats and plenty of opportunity to stay snug with accessories.

Abbyhugs will have a booth at this weekend’s Oktoberfest at Germantown. Not only will you get to see everything she’s been working on all summer, you’ll also get to meet the girl behind the hugs!

All Abbyhugs products are hand-crocheted by (duh) Abby and each piece is one-of-a-kind so there while you’ll be able to tell it’s her signature style, you won’t be caught wearing the same beret someone else has on at your next social event.

Abbyhugs are also available at Local Honey (12th South), Nashville Clothing Company (West End & Cool Springs) and HBH Profiles in Franklin.
