Wishlist update

Filed under: Wishlist — Ms. Tabitha @ 11:30 pm

I got my flat boots! Got a pair of tan, tall boots from Anthropologie that are perfect!

Here are a couple more things I wouldn’t mind seeing under the tree. Or, y’know, whenever:

Wii Fit

New drum set for Rock Band 2. Frankly, I don’t NEED this. I already have four plastic instruments sitting around my living room it’s not necessary for a fifth. I’d probably sell the old set. This is the closest I’ll ever come to owning a drum kit. I drummed when I was younger. In a band. A cover band. I’m going to stop there.

Knitting lessons. Seriously, I need someone to teach me how to do certain things. I’m terrible at this but I enjoy it so much!

That is all. Carry on.

50% off Tall Boots Sale!!

At Anthropologie in the Hills Center!

So those Frye boots you’ve been eyeing? The ones that cost $369? They’re now $189.

Not sure how long this sale’s going to last so I wouldn’t hesitate. You can see online what they have on sale but there’s boots/shoes in the store that they don’t have online and vice versa.

Wishlist time!!

Filed under: Wishlist — Ms. Tabitha @ 9:27 pm

I started looking online for Christmas presents for other people. Then, I thought, wait what about me? So here we go:

Urban Outfitters

I’m into tights and booties right now and sweaters that will hide my rear end.
Francesca’s

I realize there’s a theme here… I’m trying to branch out from black so grey’s a safe color and it goes great with my scarves.  I’ve been building up a steady, colorful collection of those scarves (you know the ones that that suddenly everyone else is wearing) since lord knows when – they’re so cheap in Singapore.  I’ve even bought them as gifts for friends for years. And now everyone else wears them.  Anyway, that’s neither here nor there.  Moving on…

J.Crew

I’d love a pair of flat, leather riding boots. Not necessarily these but these would be great just because they come in extended calf sizes and my calves are, uh, extensive.  Soccer.  I blame playing soccer in my youth.

More boots:

I love my Uggs. As atrocious as some find them to be, my feet are just happy as can be when I slip into them. They’re winter’s Croc equivalent. But cuter. I saw these in the Walking Store at the mall while my mom was getting herself a pair of Uggs and I do declare, I like them!

Other things I would love to get:

A food processor
Tart pan
A project organizer for work
2009 My Agenda. These agendas are great – they look good, they fit into my purse, and you can get them at Social Graces here in town.  It’s been the only day-planner/agenda I haven’t stopped using.
As always, gift certificates are great. I’d love one to Sanctuary for Yoga or a bunch of dance classes at Green Hills School of Dance… or gift cards to Williams Sonoma or Pottery Barn or West Elm.. OOH! You know what I’d love? For someone to treat The Husband and I to a weekend away from the dogs. Like, board them. That would be sooooooooo nice.
Just a few things… nothing on here is something I actually need, per se, but there’s no harm in wishing right? Your turn – what’s on your list?

Guess what

I’m not shopping today.

What.

Look, I’m into sales and all that, but I also like my personal space. I have a feeling these discounts will last beyond this weekend. The Christmas shopping starts next week.

Instant Karma

Filed under: Uncategorized — Ms. Tabitha @ 2:03 pm

Nothing more instantly gratifying than buying yourself something pretty to benefit those in need.

e1227311938.jpgOn December 3, the American Heart Association is partnering with Atelier in Green Hills for an evening of shopping and giving. There will be champagne and hors d’oeuvres alongside Atelier’s handmade jewelry, pottery, art glass and other artisan works. 15% of your purchase will benefit AHA. They have plenty of things under $50 so this works even for the budget-conscious (and these days, who isn’t?!).

Pick up a gift for friends, a gift for yourself, and help out a wonderful charity.

First Impressions

Filed under: Uncategorized — Ms. Tabitha @ 9:31 am

“Own one good suit.” I’ve always been told that. For job interviews, business meetings… A classic, flattering, good, quality suit. It surprises me when someone tells me they’ve never owned a suit and “am I supposed to wear one to an interview??”

Just off the top of my head, there are some fine places to find a suit these days – J.Crew has nice suits but a little more pricey. Banana Republic – good, classic cuts. These places are chains, yes, but it helps if your size isn’t available in the store and they will order it for you. By the way, the red phone at J.Crew? Free shipping when you order from there. Just sayin’. For the budget-minded, there’s always Express. My first suit came from there because that’s all I could afford but it did the trick.

As I started making more, I invested in a nice and surprisingly affordable pant suit from Benetton. Great cut, wool, two button and has stayed in great shape since I bought it almost four years ago. What’s nice, too, is that when you get a suit from either BR or J.Crew or Benetton, you can get a skirt to match too and change things up a bit. I’m pretty sure Posh has suits you can get, as well as our department stores. But whenever I need business-y type clothes, the latter three are my go-to’s.

Benetton, especially, is wonderful. The Italian/European cut is soooo flattering, less boxy. They’ve stopped carrying (bad idea) their men’s line in the Green Hills store but when they did I loved it when The Husband got his shirts there. SO hot.

An article in the Fashion & Style section in the NY Times today discusses the interview suit and gives several designers’ opinions on what a “good suit” is. Nicole Miller feels the pant suit is outdated. Personally, my pant suit from Benetton is what landed me this job (I found out it’s because I was more professional than the girl I was in contention with and I know it’s because I wore a suit for both rounds).

BUT, that also brings us to the part where they discuss the audience and what kind of job you’re going for. If the company you’re interviewing with tends to be more traditional and more “old-school” in thought, then a classic suit (pants or skirt) will probably work in your favor.

I won’t spoil it for you. Here’s the article. Enjoy!

Starting Wednesday November 12, Anthropologie in Green Hills, Nashville, is having a home items sale. They will have 2500 home markdowns, as my source has told me, and it’s wonderful timing because if you’re like me, you’re starting to make your holiday gift list! Or, if you’re exactly like me, you’re just trying to get your home ready for the holidays. Either way, it’s going to be a sale worth checking out.
