Goodbye Domino

It is with a heavy heart that I bid adieu to Domino.  For the past couple of years since its launch, I’ve looked forward to receiving my subscription in the mail. Each issue had new inspirations, great ideas and wonderful insight into the lives of some of my favorite actors, singers, designers and creative personalities.

The reason given for the close is the recession and lack of advertising.  I guess it’d be fruitless to ask for my just-submitted subscription money back.

Goodbye Domino magazine.  You’ll be missed.

Janie Bryant, costume designer for Mad Men, might be launching her own fashion line. I’m trying to contain my excitement.

She’s being evasive about it though – “I hate to be so mysterious but I can’t really say!”

Whatever. As long as we know WHEN it happens!!!

Ode to Ina Garten

Filed under: Uncategorized — Ms. Tabitha @ 12:15 pm

Today, I attempt to make Ina Garten’s profiteroles. I received a food processor for Christmas and it’s time I use it. I did, after all, wish for one just based on this recipe!!

Readers, do I need a life? Don’t answer.

The dress is by Cuban-born, New York designer Isabel Toledo. The lemongrass yellow dress is made of Swiss wool lace, lined in French silk.

Gorgeous.

Inauguration Day

Filed under: Uncategorized — Ms. Tabitha @ 9:19 am

I’m not live blogging this, I’d like to get some work done after all. However I would like to point out that Michelle is still keeping conservative with her wardrobe this morning with a dress/coat ensemble.  It’s a great color on her and she looks elegant and professional.

Someone tell Jill Biden to look and learn. While I do love her red coat and what looks like a grey dress underneath, put some stockings on. Sheer ones would even work. Don’t get me wrong I like how she dresses too and I think she always manages to look cute but what you wear today will be part of a very visible history. Bare knees and tall boots? I hope she’s got a wardrobe change planned.

I’m just sayin’.

Mistress of my domain

Filed under: Home — Ms. Tabitha @ 2:47 pm

Starting with my kitchen.  It’s time to get adventurous, my dear readers.  My kitchen walls have been this blah, not-white-not-cream-not-anything color since we moved in and I am now seeking inspiration for the perfect shade.  One that will do well in sunlight, and when it gets dark.

My first instinct was a rich, deep red.  I love having at least one red room or wall in a house but the more I sit in my breakfast area, the less I want red. I might have to save that for another room.  Green has always been a favorite of mine and so has blue.  When it comes to green, I love brighter, almost lime colored greens.  With blue, I have a soft spot for (what else) Tiffany blue but that might be a bit much in a kitchen!  There’s also a more muted, grey-tinted shade of blue I like and right now it just boils down to which one I can stand seeing over time.

There are so many sites online, and so many magazines I enjoy reading that sometimes it’s inspiration overload! Design*Sponge is my go-to for all things decorative or crafty, then there’s the West Elm catalog and of course, Dwell and Domino.

What are your inspirations?

I live with 2 people and a dog

Filed under: Dog drama — Ms. Tabitha @ 1:48 pm

Dooce lamented that her first dog, Chuck, is just not a real dog and how her observations were confirmed by a dog trainer they hired.

She’s been training dogs for over ten years and has never before encountered anything so emotionally delicate as Chuck and told us that we’d been having so much trouble with Coco because we’d never before lived with a normal dog. Coco, she said, could let go. Chuck, on the other hand, would remember the kid in first grade who stole his fruit roll-up and then twenty years later open fire in a mall because he was still mad about it.

That describes Nemo, our first dog who is a six year old silky terrier.  He is, as OUR dogsitter pals call him, a person trapped in a dog’s body.  He couldn’t fathom why we got our puppy, Mona – that jumping, hyperactive, noisy creature who just. Won’t. Leave. Him. Be.

She just loves him so much is all.

She’s the one on the chair.
