VerdeGoh!

Small! Green! Environmentally friendly! All the key elements that pique people’s interest these days. Well, mine in particular. Ever since I started driving (and fell in love with) a Mini, I’ve come to appreciate the whole “great things come in small packages” thing.

I covet the Smart Car. I want one so bad. And today I added another tiny car to my list of wants – the VerdeGoh electric car! 200x200_xg4.jpg

It’s run on batteries, completely electric and is perfect for when I just want to make a grocery store run, or just run errands around town. From what I gathered on their FAQ page, the cars come in either a Low or Medium Speed Vehicle (LSV/MSV) range. The medium allows you to travel on roads with speed limits up to 40mph. True, it doesn’t leave a lot of options but it works for my needs.

This is definitely a third car. At this point in time, I can’t afford a third car. But when things get better, and oh, call me crazy – when I get a full time job (!!!) who knows??

Oh did I mention they’re right here in TN? The people who run the company are fast on their way to opening a general store selling green products. You can check them out on their blog here.

It’s encouraging to see that there are local companies making an effort to impart environmentalism on the city’s residents without being overbearing. Now if they can just figure out how to get those cars to come into Nashville so people here will see them for themselves! There’s a certain blogger in these parts that would love to test drive one!

My Horoscope for the week

Filed under: Uncategorized — Ms. Tabitha @ 12:38 pm

Your horoscope – Week of March 30, 2009 You can do well and make progress in your career. But you’re still going to face challenges that test your determination to carry on. With a focus on your twelfth house and with Venus retrograde, you may feel that the prize is being snatched away from you just as you’re about to seize hold. Trying to manipulate circumstances in order to create certain outcomes isn’t going to work. What does help is if you can get into a more receptive mood. You’ll magnetize everything you need and encourage it to flow towards you.

Urban Outfitters in The Gulch

I could barely hide the glee on my face as I walked into our very own Urban Outfitters store this morning.  It didn’t matter that I had to pee really badly and they don’t have a bathroom for public use. I just clenched, and started shopping.  The first thing I noticed was that the store seemed a little bare. Sure enough, they didn’t have a home section with the rugs, wall art and the other knick knacks they sell.  According to my friend abby, a couple of the stores in Chicago have also gotten rid of theirs so this might not be a new thing after all. Still, I was disappointed that I could check some items I’ve seen online out in person.
They do seem to have more perfume and makeup items than other UO’s I’ve been to. What was great about them opening today was that it wasn’t a cluster at all – I was there right before lunchtime, and I got in and out of the fitting rooms twice without having to wait. The sales staff are still on their opening day high and are extremely nice, and very very helpful.

One thing I wonder is how they’d do in Nashville. I’d imagine UO goes over great with the college crowd, especially Belmont kids who, lately, seem to be way more hipster trendy than I remembered them to be when I first moved here in 2001.  Vandy kids… they’re still primarily of the Lacoste, Lily Pulitzer, Tori Burch crowd so it may be a while till it catches on with a lot of them.  What surprised me today were how many moms were in there pulling clothes out for themselves.  It’ll be interesting to see the clothes from UO interpreted by the Belle Meade types!

As for me, I picked up some skirts and a cute top.

Two tulip skirts, one linen and one cotton (can’t find the picture)

and a casual black skirt with pockets.

I will confess, even though I gush and coo over the UO catalog and I love the way they style their outfits I’m at a point where it’s really not all for me. No, I don’t think I’ll ever outgrow the store, there’s always going to be something I could wear and I love their jewelry and accessories. But I have to face facts – I’m not 20 anymore!!

That said, I’m so going back this weekend with the husband.

I can’t drink

Filed under: Uncategorized — Ms. Tabitha @ 12:29 pm

People always ask me why I don’t drink. Thing is, I can’t. I’ve tried, believe me – there’s nothing less enjoyable than being surrounded by people who can drink who get drunker and drunker by the minute as I sit there stone cold sober.  And joke all you want about how every group needs a designated driver but joke’s on them because I drive a Mini.

But that’s neither here nor there.

I can’t enjoy an alcoholic beverage. Not much of one anyway because my body reacts to drinking like a child who’s allergic to peanuts. NO, it won’t kill me, but my throat gets tight, my face turns red, it’s hard to breathe, my heartrate goes way up and then I vomit. Over and over till I’m clear of alcohol. Sounds like fun right? And I’ve tried everything – inhaler, eating first, eating DURING, water, building up a tolerance by just drinking through the pain… no dice.
I’ve read in various places that it’s because Asian people lack a certain enzyme that metabolizes alcohol. In the NY Times today, they had an article about that enzyme (or lack thereof) and how, when my body reacts that way, it’s actually trying to protect me from getting cancer.

I’m butchering the reasoning/research. So here’s the article.

Sprung!!!

Spring is here! My garden is in such disarray and while I don’t usually like the implementation part of gardening, I love the planning and ideas.

My first item on my wishlist? These planters from Jayson Home & Garden which I found via Design*Sponge.

I love the shape and how sleek they are and they’re such a great alternative to trying to weed around my beds. I’d love to hear more ideas from you guys!
