I’m so spoiled

I got my Leica D-Lux 4 today.

uzq.jpg

I’ve already used it and taken pictures and fiddled with the focus modes… I love it. It’s small, it’s a substantial camera, and it’s so sleek!!! EE!
Oh and I do feel the need to add that B&H has some very very dilligent customer service people, one in particular. A Henry Posner emailed me personally yesterday after he 1) saw my Tweet and 2) read my last post. He explained why it was so complicating with my order – because I chose to use two credit cards, one of which is an international card. Anyway, he was nice enough to wish me a happy birthday and the intention is appreciated.

I’m excited. I have two occasions to use the camera at this weekend – a formal dinner for one of my good friends’  30th birthday, and a baby shower on Sunday.  I guess I should go RTFM now so I can make full use of its capabilities.

Squee!

Early birthday treat

Filed under: Online — Ms. Tabitha @ 9:33 am

I ordered one of these babies today. It doesn’t come with the gorgeous case though but that’s something I’ll have to get after the fact.

img13727.jpg
The Leica D-Lux 4 is a wonderful camera to use and it fits very nicely into my little purse.  Because I can’t go into a camera store to purchase one, I had to order it on the phone.  No, I didn’t do an online purchase because B&H, the only approved seller of Leicas in America, wouldn’t let me split credit cards and this is partially a gift from my folks.

So I sucked it up (“it” being patience) and called customer service. Sure enough, it was someone whose first language clearly isn’t English but their grasp of the language is fluent enough to implement secure transactions over the phone. At least, I hope they know how.

I tell him “one credit card is international, the other is in the US. Is that going to complicate things?”

“We’ll see. Let me put this in the system.”

Suddenly, I’m really really nervous.  I give him the billing address for the foreign card, then the info on the card. He asks for the shipping address, but never asks for the billing address to the U.S. card.  Apparently the order goes through anyway and he tells me he has to transfer me to “verification services.” I ask if he needed to know what shipping method I needed and he said that “they’ll be able to take care of that.”

I give the order number to the VS guy, and he said “Has the order gone through?” Uh… ?!?!?!? “I was told that you’d be able to finish my transaction and take care of this for me?” “Sure thing, let me check.”

“Sure thing?!” Is there a handbook of American slang they’re supposed to use because both of them also used “hang tight” to keep me from ripping my hair out. VS guy tells me the order’s verified, and “is that all we can do for you today?” I ask (again) about shipping and that I need it sent to me via Next Day Air. “Oh, I have to transfer you back to customer service ma’am.”

Fine. And oh, I get the switchboard again, and a new guy picks the phone up.  I give him the situation, and he said “Did you buy something already?” &^%&*#$*(!!!! “Yes. Here’s the order number, does that help?” “Let me see ma’am. Hang tight.” He tells me that he’s able to add the charge to my personal credit card, and that I’ll see 2 charges on there for whatever I paid for the camera and for the shipping.  I dug myself deeper into frustration when I asked for a confirmation to be sent via email.  I hope he heard me spell my email address correctly because I’m going to be really miffed if nothing comes through.

After he told me that I should receive an email when the order is processed he then tried to sell me on the extended warranty.  “no.. no it’s fine, I don’t want it.” “But if you drop it and break it, then you’re going to spend more than the camera costs to fix it.”

ME: No, I’m fine, thank you. I’m not going to get the warranty.

HIM: It’s just that, ma’am, my customers have always said no they don’t want the warranty then they break the camera.

MEL It’s fine. THANK. YOU.

HIM: OK then ma’am is there anything else I can help you with?

ME: That’s it. As long as I can call back and verify my order if I have the order number?

HIM: OH yes, 100%.

ME: OKTHANKSBYE!

I’ll let you all know if/when I get my camera. But lesson learned – just buy stuff from B&H online.  It’s worth the trouble (unless I run into any more) and I’m excited to finally be able to get this camera. Ever since I got to try my sister’s out when I was back in Singapore, I’ve been wanting it more and more. It takes beautiful pictures, it has functions similar to those on my SLR, but it’s compact enough for me to carry wherever. I can’t wait!

Thais & Adam Hall

Filed under: Uncategorized — Ms. Tabitha @ 6:24 pm

My friend Thais said “I do” to her best friend and best love Adam last Saturday at Bethel Community Church in Cool Springs and I was fortunate enough to be there!! I’m still giddy from a wedding that I was a guest/coordinator at. It all went smoothly and the whole affair was perfect! Everyone had a blast especially the bride and groom who had smiles on their faces all day. I’ve never experienced a more laid back gathering!

img_0573.jpg

Forgive the quality of the pictures – I took them with my iPhone.

The bride got her gown from Bella Bridesmaid and altered it to have a sweetheart neckline and added tulle to the bottom of the skirt for volume. She wore a birdcage veil to top off her really elegant and chic look.  Surrounding Thais are her two gorgeous sister, her wonderful photographer Megan Hill and her cousin.

The wedding was nothing short of fabulous and no one else could be credited more for that than the bride herself.  She was so hands-on, and so D.I.Y I was just agog with admiration.  She enlisted her family to put the decorations up, she came up with the idea to do cupcakes (chocolate with white frosting from Sam’s Club topped with a strawberry Whopper) instead of a cake, her cousin who DJ’s for events was in charge of the awesome music and the catering was done by local caterer (and life coach, amongst other things) Linda Paek.

Even though it threatened to rain the sun broke through 20 minutes before guests arrived and the weather was just perfect for the outdoor wedding they wished for.  Officiated by the couple’s long-time friend, Jaz, the whole wedding was beautiful and meaningful from start to finish.  It was an intimate affair with 60 of their closest friends and family members and I had a blast being there.

Aside from the fun and the joy I receive from being a part of special days like weddings, I really enjoy getting to meet the creativity that lives and breathes right here in Nashville.  Those of you looking for a photographer should really check out Megan’s work on her blog and website.  She was great to work with at the wedding – so non-intrusive, great eye, and she had the couple completely at ease the entire time which is key for a photographer.  That mutual trust between subject and photographer is so important and if it’s not shared, the pictures can turn out to be really awkward so keep that in mind when you source for a photographer for your big day – they may be great in their portfolio but, do you like them and do they like you?

Anyway, back to the newlyweds – I’m definitely honored to have been asked to be their coordinator. Congratulations again Thais and Adam! And, congratulations to all you newly engaged and newlyweds out there.

Custom Kicks

Filed under: For the boys,Just plain haute,Singapore — Ms. Tabitha @ 10:27 am

Lucky lucky NY Blogger Wendy Lam (aka Nitrolicious) had a pair of custom Nike kicks made for her.  The artist is none other than long-time, hometown friend Mark Ong/Sbtg.  He’s been custom painting sneakers since we met back in the day (ok… more like 1999) and he’s only gotten better and better.

dsc_0028.jpg

Celebs who’ve adorned his hand-painted, uniquely crafted masterpieces include Q-tip and the boys from Linkin Park. And also, The Husband who received a pair as a gift from Mark for our wedding. THANKS MARK. And THANKS JEAN!!!

Watch the video of nitrolicious in her sweet sweet new kicks here.

You can order your own sneakers from his website, keep updated on new stuff on his blog, and pretty soon you’ll be sauntering around town in your own pair! They’re hard to resist.

Sidewalk Sale Hillsboro Village

Filed under: Hillsboro Village — Ms. Tabitha @ 4:52 pm

From 10am-5pm tomorrow, Saturday the 25th, Posh, Nashville Clothing X-change, Fire Finch and Pangaea and a bunch of the other stores are doing a “yard” sale of sorts. Sidewalk sale I guess. But according to the lovely salesgirl at Fire Finch, there will be items on sale up to 80% off!!

She also said it’s “last season’s items” but IMHO, Fire Finch carries a lot of clothes that transcend seasons and fashion trends.

So once the sweaty runners are done with the marathon, make your way over to Hillsboro Village to check it out. I know I’ll be there!

HerNashville Swap Meet

Filed under: Gulch — Ms. Tabitha @ 10:47 am

The ladies at HerNashville are kicking off their annual Swap Meet event at Icon in the Gulch this Thursday from 6-8p.m.  The idea is that you bring a single friend of the opposite sex to meet other single people. You don’t have to be single but if you have a friend who you feel would make a wonderful other-half, this sounds like a really fun event to go to.

Proceeds benefit the Junior League of Nashville. This free event will also feature drinks from Firefly Vodka (which some of my friends with more discernable tastes tell me is just delicious) and Urban Flats, the flatbread restaurant in the Gulch. You have to sign up to reserve your space.

I’ve been happily married to The Husband for three years and we consider ourselves really really fortunate.  Nashville is such a difficult town to meet people in yet I know lots of wonderful single people who deserve to find their perfect mate.  However there’s only so much one can do, and I think this Swap Meet idea is great. You bring the friend, it’s up to them to make the next move. Plus, I can only imagine HerNashville subscribers to be decent folk with decent friends.

Sign up for the SwapMeet here. While you’re at the site, browse around HerNashville if you haven’t been there before. It’s a fun site with great insight from some intelligent women who live right here in Nashville.

Some treats for you all to check out

Honey Sweet Baking Co. – If you live in Mid TN and are wondering, hmm, I need something sweet for a party/shower/get-together and I’ve gotten bored with the usual options here in town where should I go?? Here’s what you should do. Pay the girls at Honey Sweet Baking Co. a visit. I can personally vouch that their cupcakes are divine. None of that piled on neon colored sugar some people call frosting. The icing they use on their cupcakes is light and delicious. And I usually don’t eat cupcakes!Honey Sweet takes orders, their flavors are all online and taste as good as they sound.  I tried the Buttuh cupcake (oooohmygod heaven), the All American was fabulous too if you love chocolate… Steeplechasers – these babies will be a hit at your tailgate/picnic!! You can also join their group on Facebook.

The Outnet – Are you starting to receive Save The Dates and invitations to weddings, showers and events galore?  Well if you’re like me and you have nothing to wear to any upcoming showers or parties, my friend Magdelene just turned me on to a discount designer wear site. If you haven’t already heard of it, brace yourself I mean, my head about exploded when I realized what it was. The Outnet dot com.  Granted some of the prices are pretty steep even after the discount but it makes a lot of things a whole lot more accessible. I especially love this dress:

By the way, I made it through Day 5. I DID IT!!! Boy was I sore, but in that gooooood “wow I just did something amazing with my body and pushed my limits and worked hard” kind of sore. And then I celebrated (and negated it all) by getting a gyro platter that evening. Go me.
