Honestly? I can’t believe I’ve made it through 4 days. Quick recap – Day 1: kind of rough. Day 2: better, felt wonderful. Day 3: Even better, feel and look different, like, stronger and thinner. Sure enough, I lost 3lbs.
The fourth day was not the easiest day or easiest class but the biggest difference was in my yoga practice itself. I’m almost weened of the bad habits I had from my previous studio, and I’m way more focused now without being obsessive. And I’m not totally hard on myself if I fall out of balance or if I can’t do something. My mental state is more calm, it’s more sane and my thoughts are clearer than ever. It’s fascinating what this yoga practice is doing for me!!
My allergies seem to have settled, even with the changes in temperature and air quality over the past couple of days. I may not need that local honey after all!!
This five-day intensive may become a monthly practice for me. And I hope I get to play some golf this weekend to see if that’s been affected too. If anything, I won’t be trying to break my golf clubs on trees anymore when I make a bad shot!!
I am really excited about a new follower I have on Twitter. Spruce is a home decor store in Brentwood that also sells accessories and baby stuff! Perfect since I am always on the lookout for sources to gussy up my own abode, and lately everyone around me is either pregnant or having a baby so I’m going to have to check this place out.
Gathering what I can from their website, the store was started this year by a group of women – they have a graphic artist who has her own stationery line and other people on staff who specialize in home decor and, evidently, babies! They sell linens, purses, jewelry – it all looks really interesting. And that’s just online!
Usually when you think of Brentwood you think of chain stores so it’s a pleasant surprise that something local has started up there. Yes, I know it’s not all chain stores but for the most part, there’s a lack of character. It seems to be changing lately and I’m glad there’s more and more unique stops for shoppers in that area now.
You can sign up for their newsletter, or even follow them on Twitter if you’re on there. They’re open Monday – Friday 10 – 5, and Saturdays 10 – 4.

This morning, my scale said I lost 3 pounds. A few days before my yoga journey began, I was at the doctor where I weighed 120.6lbs and it matched on my scale when I weighed in before starting and I have to say, I’m really really pleased with the results.
I cannot stress enough how Bikram Cool Springs or even Bikram Yoga for that matter is NOT paying me. Let’s just get that out of the way.
I don’t feel as tired and even though I still hit snooze about eight times in the morning, I manage to wake up a lot quicker now. My mood has improved, I’m not as easily stressed out and I take things in stride now instead of letting things get to me too quickly.
However, I do miss going to dance class so I’m not sure how often I’ll do this “yoga everyday” thing. I’m torn between two activities I love but hey, that’s not a bad problem to have I guess!
Two more days… I think I can make it!

It was REALLY difficult to wake up today. Last night’s class went WAY better than Day 1′s did (where I threw up a little in my mouth from a giant brunch I had) and I even managed to fit in a dance class after.
I slept really well, but getting up actually hurt and I felt sore, as if I developed new muscles. Hopefully after Day 3 the kinks will be worked out. I managed to fit into another pair of pants that used to cut my circulation off at the stomach. Not anymore!! The joy I’m feeling from back into them is keeping me motivated.
Another plus to feeling so light and healthy is the fact that I don’t want to indulge in fatty foods. Fruits, veggies, lots of water… this is turning into an involuntary cleanse and I like it so far!

In 2008, I started at a job that broke me down mentally and emotionally. When I’m stressed, I eat. I also had easy access to some wonderful, rich food thanks to the job and needless to say, I gained a ton of weight. I also stopped working out and rarely took Bikram yoga classes (or hot yoga as it’s been better known here in Nashville) anymore and that brought the weight on a lot more rapidly than I would have liked.
Bikram Cool Springs opened its doors in January and I have found a new sanctuary for my practice – one that teaches Bikram in its correct, purest form. It’s a form of yoga I have enjoyed since 2003 and it has never let me down. I feel cleansed, I feel energized, and I feel and look (and according to the Husband) fantastic when I get to practice. More importantly, my brain focuses so much better, I am happier and I definitely feel healthy inside and out.
Today was Day 1 of my five-days-in-a-row, personal Bikram yoga challenge. I am going to track my progress and my goal is to fit into this particular pair of Chip & Pepper jeans I haven’t been able to wear comfortably since the job. I am going to see how this five-day practice helps me focus, and how it makes me feel and you all get to follow along!
I have no doubt it’s going to be an amazing ride, even though it’s only five days. But just think – if five days can make such a difference in my life, imagine what my continued practice can do, and what this yoga could do for you too if you gave it a try!
No, they aren’t paying me to say this. This is just a personal goal. BUT, if you’re inspired to try it out for yourself, you have my utmost support and encouragement!

Well… I did wake up in the late morning.
Hey, what’s the big deal with Provence bakery? They’re absolute s*** when it comes to brunch/breakfast. If I wanted my food microwaved I’d go to Starbucks. At least I know it’s tasty.
All plans to go to Bikram yoga today are shot, 50% through my own choices and 50% through fate. Turns out my housekeeper turned the alarms off on my clock and they didn’t go off this morning so I missed the class. There’s another one in 45 minutes but, eh, I think I’ll spend some quality time getting comfy on my furniture today. The workout commences tomorrow.
When we’re younger, in our angsty, teenage years we fool ourselves into thinking that what inspires us are the bands we listen to and to some extent, we’re right. But when we mature, when we’re into our late 20′s and (for some of us) our 30′s, we are more apt to tell the world that our parents, our family and our friends (more so than anything) are who influence us to try new things, to be who we are and to emulate.
One of my friends from my late teens was an influence then, and is still an influence now especially when it comes to life choices, fashion and music. She has always had such great taste in bands and music, she’s always been on the forefront of what’s hot and when I was lucky enough to see her the last time I was home, she was still the same great source for new music.
So today, my soundtrack as I sit here piddling away on the computer half doing work and half playing is Noah and the Whale. It’s also my ode to my friend the Marrionette. Go check out her blog for insight, and wonderful perspective.
Have a great week everyone!
Oh hai…

This little boy would like to go home with you today. So would a few of his brothers and sisters. If I didn’t already have a monster, I’d totally go adopt him. Or her.

You know you want one.
So… I had to turn around and go home twice this morning because in my rush to get out of the housekeeper’s way, I forgot my yoga mat, and then my cell phone. The first one I probably could live without but my iPhone? Nosir.
Then I went to get petrol and forgot my debit card. Then I thought I lost my debit card. So I called all the possible places I could have left it at and no one has seen it. Shit. Then I call the bank and ask to cancel my debit card. “Yes, again.” Don’t judge me. I asked what the last transaction was and she said “iTunes.” So I go through the shpiel of ordering another card and it hits me – it’s right on my desk at home because I had to change my info (since I lost the other card 2 weeks ago and subsequently found) to purchase an app.
Luckily, it wasn’t too late to cancel the cancellation. Are you still following me? Ok good. The woman on the phone as trying hard not to laugh but I gave her permission to when I said “No that’s all I need today, glad I could entertain you this morning” and hung up.
It was only 9:15 at that point. GAW.
Let’s see if I can make it to noon without walking into a door.
