Viva!

Finally, Nashville gets some love in the Blogosphere.  When Domino was in print, I wished that a city guide featured Nashville.  No dice.

But my wait is over – something I love even more than Domino now has a thorough guide to Nashville. Thanks to a girl named Lindsay (if anyone knows if she has a blog, let me know please?) Nashville is today’s featured city on Design*Sponge!  I am so excited!

She has listed everything from shopping to eateries to things to see and do.  Local businesses got a lot of love too. Just a few from her list -  Marche, Two Elle, imogene+willie, Crema, I Dream of Weenie … it’s a wonderful guide that even people who live here should check out.  We always think we know what to do or where to go when out-of-towners ask, but do we? Really?

Well, now we at least have a good list to arm ourselves with.

SELLING

Please tell your friends to come by tomorrow. Yard Sale on Paris Avenue between 12th Avenue South and 10th Avenue South.

I, personally, am selling:

  • Nicole Miller cocktail dress
  • Traditional Chinese cheongsam that’s great for cocktail parties
  • Heels – J-crew, Banana Republic, Nine West, BCBGirls. All worn only a few times. Size 5 1/2 or 6
  • Clothes that I just can’t fit into anymore from known brands and designers and some items from high-end boutiques.
  • Stainless steel flatware, a set of 4 hand blown glasses, small set of dishes and bowls

My friends are also selling clothes and shoes. There will be more household items sold, accessories, probably books and some really nice furniture.  I know one of them has a ton of dresses.  None of us are extremely willing to part with any of these because they’re all in such great shape but I’m trying to make room for personal reasons, and my friends just moved into a new place and are trying to reorganize and another is trying to renovate and sell their home. Anything that’s less-than-ideal in shape/quality we’re already donating to Goodwill and we’re not even going to try to sell it to you.

Come on through, we’ll be there first thing in the morning.

It’s not me, it’s you

Filed under: 12th Avenue South — Ms. Tabitha @ 10:07 am

I broke up with my hairdresser.  After almost 7 years of going to him, I had to cut the cord.  Why?  Well, through no 100% fault of his own, he can’t cut hair anymore.  He’s always done a stellar job too, but the other day?  It looked like I just bent over and snipped away without looking in a mirror.  It looked great from the front but in the back?  Yikes.

A girlfriend of mine who always has great hair recommended Green Pea salon.  Her girl, however, is booked solid till the first of the new year.  I needed someone stat.  The first available girl was Erika so I took a chance, and I’m quite glad I did.  She listened, she checked out the situation and she was careful to not just go for it but instead checked whether I liked the first round of corrections and when I gave her carte blanche, the end result was just what I needed.

What used to be … lordy I forget the name of that boutique that used to be there help me out here. It’s on the corner of Paris Ave and 12th Ave South.  They used to have these hideous plants outside of it… ANYWAY! Green Pea Salon looks nothing on the outside like the boutique that used to be there. They repainted it a soft color, and it is as pleasant as it looks.

Full of West Elm furnishings (and you know how much of a West Elm sucker I am) they mix the retro feel of the old garage it sits in with modern decor.  I also love that they kept the retro seafoam green tiles in the bathroom.

My husband also goes there, as does my girlfriend’s husband and a couple of their friends so it’s definitely a great salon for men too. Price wise?  Erika charges $30 for guys and $45 for women for a cut and to me that’s not bad at all. She also does hairdo’s for special occasions.

Humpday Dreams

Filed under: 12th Avenue South — Ms. Tabitha @ 10:18 pm

It’s only Wednesday but I’m already plotting what I’ll be doing for the weekend.

Continuing on my quest to gussy up the interior of my home, I will be heading to 12th South for its annual Tour of Homes. I really really enjoyed the one of Belmont, and I know there are homes on 12th South that I’d love to see.

Tickets are only $8, it starts at 10am and ends at 5pm. There’s more information here mast_lg.jpg.

Go, see, and be inspired!!!

Local Honey

My adoration for vintage clothes shopping in Nashville always stops short when I look at the price tag and receive a big punch in the face when I see that the cardigan I have in my hands costs $85. Um, did fairies knit this? But thanks to the lovely ladies at Local Honey vintage clothing store on 12th Ave South and Linden Ave, I’m not apprehensive anymore.

Reasonable prices aside, what they offer is tasteful and varied. From leather boots to chunky-knit sweaters to the cutest dresses just perfect for Spring, you’ll find that your vintage needs will be catered to. They have new arrivals every week, a killer sale rack, and lovely housewares as well.

Helen, who co-owns the shop, also makes her own clothes and recently sold a dress to the wife of someone whose name rhymes with Mack Dwight. Bring your vintage pieces and exchange them for store credit or other finds from the shop! Check out the furniture and home decorative accessories they have for sale.

Local honey also provides alteration and mending services! You can find them on MySpace. No website yet, so you have yet another reason to go by and see for yourself what Local Honey has waiting for you!

Sadie B. – Going Out of Business Sale

‘Tis a sad day… Sadie B. on 12th Avenue South just across the parking lot from Trim/Mirror is closing its doors so their fabulous housewares are now on massive sale.

They are the only place in Nashville I know that carries Nigella Lawson’s “Living Kitchen” product and I’m heading there tomorrow to see what I can salvage for myself. Sadie B. is (while I can still use the present tense) one of the coolest places in town for gifts and I still regret not registering for my wedding there. Flatware, china, home accessories – it’s all there so please go have a look before you no longer have a chance to.
