Viva!

Finally, Nashville gets some love in the Blogosphere.  When Domino was in print, I wished that a city guide featured Nashville.  No dice.

But my wait is over – something I love even more than Domino now has a thorough guide to Nashville. Thanks to a girl named Lindsay (if anyone knows if she has a blog, let me know please?) Nashville is today’s featured city on Design*Sponge!  I am so excited!

She has listed everything from shopping to eateries to things to see and do.  Local businesses got a lot of love too. Just a few from her list -  Marche, Two Elle, imogene+willie, Crema, I Dream of Weenie … it’s a wonderful guide that even people who live here should check out.  We always think we know what to do or where to go when out-of-towners ask, but do we? Really?

Well, now we at least have a good list to arm ourselves with.

Sidewalk Sale Hillsboro Village

Filed under: Hillsboro Village — Ms. Tabitha @ 4:52 pm

From 10am-5pm tomorrow, Saturday the 25th, Posh, Nashville Clothing X-change, Fire Finch and Pangaea and a bunch of the other stores are doing a “yard” sale of sorts. Sidewalk sale I guess. But according to the lovely salesgirl at Fire Finch, there will be items on sale up to 80% off!!

She also said it’s “last season’s items” but IMHO, Fire Finch carries a lot of clothes that transcend seasons and fashion trends.

So once the sweaty runners are done with the marathon, make your way over to Hillsboro Village to check it out. I know I’ll be there!

Melissa Plastic Dreams

Took a detour on the way home today and stopped at Posh in Hillsboro Village to look at shoes. Didn’t expect to buy or even find anything, I’ve been looking for a pair of comfy, wedge style shoes and so far I’ve come up empty. Slingbacks don’t work on my feet for some reason and everything else is just to heavy.

My eyes fell on a pair of black, velvet platforms with a teeeeeeny peep toe. It was SO cute, and very affordable. Turns out Posh Shoes just started carrying Melissa shoes.

Melissa is a line of plastic, jelly-like shoes. ** Thanks to Tom for catching what I completely misunderstood as a bio. Zaha Hadid is an artist/architect who has lent her designs to the Melissa line (Tom feel free to throw in the correct bio in comments if I’m still off – ta!). The shoes have been sold worldwide for a few years now. I am so proud to credit my little sister for first telling me about these shoes. She has a couple of pairs and I’m pretty sure has had them since 2007. She’s my inspiration for style and without her, I’d look like everyone else and dress really badly.

So, they may not look it, but they’re really comfortable and the material used is very flexible so it doesn’t rub too badly on your feet unlike the Crocs line of non-clog shoes. That black t-strap (t-straps, btw are the rage this fall/winter) is available in fuchsia at Posh Shoes, and they have another pair that I almost bought but I didn’t want to risk being overdrawn. It’s The Little Prince!

I couldn’t find another angle to it but you can kind of see how the drawing spans over both toes (brilliant!) and there’s more on the inside of the shoe too. SO cute.

These are the ones I got:

They are exactly what I was looking for – light weight, comfortable (it’s practically flat) and my toes are scrunched together at the toe. It’s exactly what I needed for work.

Spice up your life

Filed under: Hillsboro Village,Just plain haute — Ms. Tabitha @ 9:35 am

Posh (get it? Posh? Spice? eh) boutique in Hillsboro Village and Clarksville (and soon in Green Hills) is the one boutique a girl can get away with going into with her significant other. Until someone proves otherwise, I’ll stand by the fact that Posh is the only place in Nashville where you can find fashion for both women AND men at prices that aren’t outrageous by any means, unlike other boutiques that offer men’s clothing.

Penguin, Puma, GStar, Rock & Republic (although denim is pretty standard across the board price-wise), Susana Monaco, Diesel, MAXStudio – there’s variety and rarely will you leave empty handed. It’s also clothes that are current in style but not crazy-trendy so your money isn’t going to be wasted on clothes that are obviously from a particular season in a particular year.

Hey I’m all for trends (if it looks good) but there’s something to be said for longevity in style! But I digress…

Right now, with the weather warming up and Spring lines becoming available, Posh is having a massive sale with mark-downs on almost everything, even warm-weather-friendly clothes.

What’s fabulous is the space next door devoted entirely to shoes. Now there’s a shop owner who understands that shoe shopping is not to be distracted from clothes shopping and vice versa. Especially when one carries shoes in all shades of the rainbow, in almost every style imagineable!

When you stop into the Posh shoe shop, stop and listen to some new music at the Little Shop of Noise. It’s a music bar set up to feature non-commercial, indie artists from different genres, with a different artist each month. Now, I’m not endorsing the music they’re featuring, even though some of the artists I happened to notice are in my personal music library. But it’s just brilliant that a shop like Posh, which has proven its strength in providing Nashville with style, is now moving on to influencing other lifestyle tastes.

Oh! And ask for Hayden when you’re there – girl’s got fabulous taste and a great eye for what will and will not fit you.

Social Graces

Have I ever mentioned my affinity for stationery? Excuse me.. PRETTY stationery? Probably not yet seeing how this is only post #9 or something on Life á la mode. Well, I love pretty stationery. A lot. I have a small, growing collection of blank notecards to use for thank you’s, correspondence and just to have around. When I run out, I like to head over to a little shop called Social Graces. This month, they’re featuring pretty candy fit for Valentine’s Day.

From Vera Wang to Vera Bradley (which I’m not a fan of though I know is, for some odd reason, very popular with girls here) Social Graces carries customizable correspondence materials, sorority swag and fun stuff for the house. It’s also a fabulous place to create invitations to events intimate and grand.

The staff is very knowledgeable of their materials, and are always happy to answer your questions and this applies to both locations in Hillsboro Village and in Cool Springs.

Social Graces is good for gifts for ANY occasion, not just cupid day. Even if you just want to treat yourself to something fun, head over to have a look. Oh! And they also hold little events from time to time for craft making. I missed their last handbag making class but I’ll let you all know when the next one comes up!

A clean house shouldn’t smell like bleach. Martha Stewart, to paraphrase, believes that a clean house smells like freshly cooked food and fresh, washed sheets. To me, it should smell pleasant, whether it’s using potpourri, candles, fragrance plug-ins or otherwise. My personal choice is candles.

The day I discovered Voluspa‘s candles was the day I learned that you don’t need an arsenal of candles to have a room (or several) smell good. These candles burn clean, they make the ENTIRE house smell awesome (my living room has 25 foot ceilings) right up to the second storey. My favorites are the three-wick candles from their Japonica line – the flat, round tin at the bottom of the picture – that last about 80 hours. They come in a range of scents that should suit any preference.

Previously, I ordered them from, or picked them up when I had the chance at Anthropologie. Today, while walking around Hillsboro Village after lunch with a friend, I walked into Fire Finch (which btw is having a HUGE sale – 30% off Jonathan Adler merch) at the corner where the service station is and noticed amongst their array of home fragrances, the same candles I’ve been paying shipping for like a sucker. Another retailer that carries the Voluspa range is Obelisk in Green Hills. These candles are great, well worth the cost (About $18 – $19).

Besides, who needs to have eleventy votive holders or ugly jars sitting around the house when you can cut clutter and get just one, maybe two candles burning at a time?
