10 Fun Things for Out of Town Guests

This was my post on Ashley’s Bride Guide yesterday! Enjoy!

We love answering bride e-mails! Here’s one we got recently:

“Hi Ashley! I am getting married in Nashville on May 29th, 2010. Everyone will be from out-of-town and I have been surfing the web to find fun things for them to do in Nashville. There is so much to do in Nashville, that I don’t know what to pick for them to do. Could you suggest ten fun things for out-of-town guests to do in Nashville? Thanks so much!”

We couldn’t think of a better (or more fun) list to make and reached out to our loyal Twitter and Facebook friends who helped us create the following 10 activities to suggest for wedding guests looking for things to do in Nashville.

#1: Loveless Cafe & Motel

loveless cafe wedding

Probably THE Nashville institution, the Loveless Cafe is famous for its down-home, Southern, Nashville charm.  They are known best for their delicious biscuits and fantastic food that will leave you satisfied and happy after your meal.  Though still called a motel, it no longer serves as a place to unpack and stay in but instead now features retail shops selling art and great knick knacks to take home.  Loveless Cafe’s preserves are wonderful items you can include in your out-of-town gift bags too!

Ashley’s Bride Guide

In January, I mentioned that I had embarked on a new journey that I’m enjoying. It’s about bloody time I actually told you guys what it is.  Most of you who know me personally already know this but I’m proud to announce that I’ve been blogging for Ashley’s Bride Guide.

It’s official, I love it.  It’s the best “job” I’ve had in years and I love that I still get to be involved in the wedding community.  Ashley is inspiring to work with, her energy and creativity are admirable and I hope to go far and grow with her and this site.

ABG is a wonderful resource for brides and even those of you who are in the event business – it links to some of the best vendors in town and is chock full of ideas.  Hope you can check it out some time, and if you know any brides, I hope you send them our way!

I think I’m going to have to get this!

I love long skirts (even though I’m only 5’3″) and I love supporting Asian designers.  This way, I get to do both! Check out their shop on etsy – it’s got so many wonderfully funky and edgy designs! Makes me wish it were still cold enough to wear their sweaters and coats! I may get this one anyway! LOVE IT!!!

This makes me want to go back to Singapore like yesterday and go shopping in their local boutiques – you can always find the cutest, non-trendy but super stylish clothes there!  This will do for now.

Now where’s my credit card……

New beginnings

Filed under: Just plain haute,Online,Weddings — Ms. Tabitha @ 9:44 am

2009 was great for me and as the year passed, things got better and better.  I let myself enter new doors and let’s just say I’m thrilled about one particular door I stepped through.

I’ll keep you all updated on this when I’m given the “ok” to make an official announcement but let’s just say it’s in a realm I enjoy being a part of and I’m glad I won’t have to leave behind soon.

For now, here’s a gorgeous wedding blog I found this morning – Green Wedding Shoes.  Yes, I love weddings I think you already knew that but what I love even more about this blog are the images. They’re all so dreamy and vintage, such an inspiration and exactly how I wish I could capture all of the photographs I take.

This one made me laugh.

And oh, oh oh this is just exquisite!

I can’t wait to go through all the archived posts and see what other eye candy I come across.  Hope you enjoy it too!

I’d love to do something like this to my walls along my upstairs hallway. Wonderful creativity from Kellie’s Scrapblog who owns Every Jot & Tittle on etsy.

Oh it would be so nice to have the time (and the ch-ching)to have all this! The wall’s probably the most realistic project right now. The Life a la Mode abode is starting to come along nicely. Come back again soon, I’ll be posting before and after pics of my kitchen/workspace!

Early birthday treat

Filed under: Online — Ms. Tabitha @ 9:33 am

I ordered one of these babies today. It doesn’t come with the gorgeous case though but that’s something I’ll have to get after the fact.

The Leica D-Lux 4 is a wonderful camera to use and it fits very nicely into my little purse.  Because I can’t go into a camera store to purchase one, I had to order it on the phone.  No, I didn’t do an online purchase because B&H, the only approved seller of Leicas in America, wouldn’t let me split credit cards and this is partially a gift from my folks.

So I sucked it up (“it” being patience) and called customer service. Sure enough, it was someone whose first language clearly isn’t English but their grasp of the language is fluent enough to implement secure transactions over the phone. At least, I hope they know how.

I tell him “one credit card is international, the other is in the US. Is that going to complicate things?”

“We’ll see. Let me put this in the system.”

Suddenly, I’m really really nervous.  I give him the billing address for the foreign card, then the info on the card. He asks for the shipping address, but never asks for the billing address to the U.S. card.  Apparently the order goes through anyway and he tells me he has to transfer me to “verification services.” I ask if he needed to know what shipping method I needed and he said that “they’ll be able to take care of that.”

I give the order number to the VS guy, and he said “Has the order gone through?” Uh… ?!?!?!? “I was told that you’d be able to finish my transaction and take care of this for me?” “Sure thing, let me check.”

“Sure thing?!” Is there a handbook of American slang they’re supposed to use because both of them also used “hang tight” to keep me from ripping my hair out. VS guy tells me the order’s verified, and “is that all we can do for you today?” I ask (again) about shipping and that I need it sent to me via Next Day Air. “Oh, I have to transfer you back to customer service ma’am.”

Fine. And oh, I get the switchboard again, and a new guy picks the phone up.  I give him the situation, and he said “Did you buy something already?” &^%&*#$*(!!!! “Yes. Here’s the order number, does that help?” “Let me see ma’am. Hang tight.” He tells me that he’s able to add the charge to my personal credit card, and that I’ll see 2 charges on there for whatever I paid for the camera and for the shipping.  I dug myself deeper into frustration when I asked for a confirmation to be sent via email.  I hope he heard me spell my email address correctly because I’m going to be really miffed if nothing comes through.

After he told me that I should receive an email when the order is processed he then tried to sell me on the extended warranty.  “no.. no it’s fine, I don’t want it.” “But if you drop it and break it, then you’re going to spend more than the camera costs to fix it.”

ME: No, I’m fine, thank you. I’m not going to get the warranty.

HIM: It’s just that, ma’am, my customers have always said no they don’t want the warranty then they break the camera.

MEL It’s fine. THANK. YOU.

HIM: OK then ma’am is there anything else I can help you with?

ME: That’s it. As long as I can call back and verify my order if I have the order number?

HIM: OH yes, 100%.

ME: OKTHANKSBYE!

I’ll let you all know if/when I get my camera. But lesson learned – just buy stuff from B&H online.  It’s worth the trouble (unless I run into any more) and I’m excited to finally be able to get this camera. Ever since I got to try my sister’s out when I was back in Singapore, I’ve been wanting it more and more. It takes beautiful pictures, it has functions similar to those on my SLR, but it’s compact enough for me to carry wherever. I can’t wait!

Some treats for you all to check out

Honey Sweet Baking Co. – If you live in Mid TN and are wondering, hmm, I need something sweet for a party/shower/get-together and I’ve gotten bored with the usual options here in town where should I go?? Here’s what you should do. Pay the girls at Honey Sweet Baking Co. a visit. I can personally vouch that their cupcakes are divine. None of that piled on neon colored sugar some people call frosting. The icing they use on their cupcakes is light and delicious. And I usually don’t eat cupcakes!Honey Sweet takes orders, their flavors are all online and taste as good as they sound.  I tried the Buttuh cupcake (oooohmygod heaven), the All American was fabulous too if you love chocolate… Steeplechasers – these babies will be a hit at your tailgate/picnic!! You can also join their group on Facebook.

The Outnet – Are you starting to receive Save The Dates and invitations to weddings, showers and events galore?  Well if you’re like me and you have nothing to wear to any upcoming showers or parties, my friend Magdelene just turned me on to a discount designer wear site. If you haven’t already heard of it, brace yourself I mean, my head about exploded when I realized what it was. The Outnet dot com.  Granted some of the prices are pretty steep even after the discount but it makes a lot of things a whole lot more accessible. I especially love this dress:

By the way, I made it through Day 5. I DID IT!!! Boy was I sore, but in that gooooood “wow I just did something amazing with my body and pushed my limits and worked hard” kind of sore. And then I celebrated (and negated it all) by getting a gyro platter that evening. Go me.
